"Pizza Is a great Metaphor for America. it came over here from Italy, then we made it better than the original, then we invaded Iraq under false pretenses."

I would like to take a moment today to be serious. I love pizza, and one of the reasons I love pizza is because, in the words of Mike Birbiglia “pizza is a great Metaphor for America.” He makes the point that this is because it is the most popular immigrant.
This is not an easy subject to talk about, especially in a blog about pizza. But I just want to give a small editorial about this.
I want to present some Pros for immigration and then some cons. Then simply share my opinion. So that I can be upfront, as of this righting I am pro immigration. But I will try to present the other side in a fair light and not belittle those ideas.

Pros for immigration.

Without making light of this huge issue I want to point out that the first big benefit of Immigration is pizza. Not just pizza but pizza as a symbol of the spread of positive ideas.
As my understanding works, an idea either spreads from one culture to another because a conquering power comes in (Rome conquering Greece) and ideas linger even if other aspects of the lesser power disappear.
The other way that ideas spread is from an Idea I only recently learned is called Migrationism, which is the theory that when a large group of people have to suddenly migrate, they bring their ideas with them. Makes since right?
For obvious reasons many Jewish Scientists had to flee from Germany, their migration to the allied countries during World War 2 could easily be the reason we won that war. I am not trying to say that the slaughter of thousands of Japanese civilians was a great thing. What I am saying is that important ideas come to the collective consciousness of humanity because of migration.
The other big Pro for Immigration is the Humanitarian treatment that a migrant person might get. As a good American I know about certain “Inalienable human rights” a person needs to have. Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness, or depending on the version you subscribe to, the pursuit of property, are among those.
The biggest reason for migration today is the crisis in Syria. I don’t think it could be denied that the civilian innocents of Syria have had their basic human rights violated.

Cons for immigration.

The Best counter argument for Immigration today is security. I know almost nothing about the situation in Syria. What I do know is that the Daesh are on the doorstep of Syria, which currently does not have secure boarders, and the common fear is that in an effort to launch a 9/11 scale attack on The United States, The Daesh would prey upon our sympathies for the persecuted masses fleeing Syria. Perhaps they would end up using this migration as a gateway to enter the country.
I think this is a reasonable, albeit irrational, fear. All the attacks The Daesh have taken credit for to date have been perpetrated by young men and women who have been radicalized via the internet. One chief cause of this radicalization has been said to be a need for acceptance. If young Islamic people are met in our borders with hatred and bigotry, they will not find acceptance on the side that claims to be “the good guys” but instead they will turn to an organization that will manipulate that basic human need for acceptance and use it to take innocent lives.

In short, Immigration in almost every sense seems like a benefit to our increasingly global culture. The way I see it, we who have much have an obligation to share with those that have had everything taken away from them.
Let us fight The Daesh not with Guns, but with love. Let us accept those who long to be accepted. Let us give shelter to those who have lived in tents or less. The greatest strength of The Daesh is simply in Ideas. So let us insure that the Ideals of democracy and humanity win out. Let us not succumb to violence and hate. No matter what your creed or nationality is. We are all human. If any person be willing to come to our country and swear their allegiance to us, that is to say, that they swear to contribute to our society and not harm anyone within our boarders.  Let them come and partake of the goodness we can provide. Including pizza
